PHP-Nuke basics Pt. 1
So you finally got nuke installed, now what's next? This tutorial will guide you.
Steps :
Once you have nuke installed, the next step is to log in a admin and click on the Preferences link. The page contains necessary information to make your site work. We will cover each options and what you should place in the boxes. Let's start at the top.
Site Name : Place the name of your site that will show at the top of all your pages.
Site URL : This is very important. Place the url to your main nuke folder, the same folder that your config.php and mainfile.php is located. Place the link without a trailing / like the following http://www.westernstudios.net/html
Site Logo : This is the image that is default on most of the themes that come with nuke. Some of the more modern themes will not use this image so in some cases it's optional. Leave it at default.
Site Slogan : This is a small description of your web site like. The next level in design.
Start Date : Place the date that you installed your site.
Administrator Email : Place the email that you want for the site operation here. Mails sent by your portal will be sent to this email.
Number of Items in top Page: Select the number of messages that will be displayed at the top of your page above the stories.
Stories Number in Home : Select the number of stories to display on your front page. These are the boxes with the image at the site.
Stories in Old Articles Box : Select the number of old articles that will be displayed in a block.
Activate Ultra mode? : Select yes or no to activate Ultra mode [Ultra mode is rss feed ]
Allow Anonymous to Post? : Select yes or no to allow non members to post [ Prevent non members from commenting on articles ]
Default Theme for your site : Select the theme that everyone will see when they visit your site [Members have the option in You r_Account to choose another themes.
Select the Language for your site : Choose your language.
Local Time Format : Put your time format here.
Activate Multilingual features? : Check whether you want the site to be other than the language you speak but you will have to create pages with different language files if Yes is selectable.
Display flags instead of a drop down box? : Check whether you want to see images for each language or just a drop down box listing all the languages.
Activate Banners in your site? : Check whether you want to display banners on your site that can be controlled by you and your clients.
Footer Messages : There are three lines that you can add information about your site. You can change all three to place your own text at the bottom of the site.
Back end Title : Write the name of your title that will display in your forums rss feed [ Backend is a xml feed of your forums ]
Backend Language : This is similar to what you use in Local Time Format.
Notify new submission by email? : Check yes or no to receiving emails every time someone submits a news article.
Email to send this message : Write the email that you want the notification to be sent to[This only works if you checked yes for the above ]
Email Subject : Write the header for the email that will be sent to you.
Email Message : The message you will see when the email is sent to you.
Email Account (from) : Webmaster of Admin will be ok here.
Type of Moderation : Select whether you want to moderate the comments.
Comments limit in Bytes : The size of the comments.
Anonymous Default Name : You can type anything you want here but it's advisable to leave it at Anonymous or Unknown.
Graphics in Administration Menu? : Check yes or no to whether you want images for the links in this admin menu or text links.
Activate HTTP Refer ers? : Check if you want to record site url's that your visitors are coming from.
How Many Referers you want as Maximum?
: If the above is Yes select the amount of referers you would like to record.
Activate Comments in Polls?
:
Decide if you want Polls in your Comments.
Activate Comments in Articles? : Same as above, decide if you want to see Polls in Articles.
Minimum users password length: Minimums for passwords
Activate Broadcast Messages? : Select whether you want broadcast messages to be shown in the header of your themes.
Activate Headlines Reader?
Let users change News number in Home? : Decide whether you want users to change the amount of stories they see in the front page.
Censor Mode : Choose the type of censoring you want for the site. Default is ok.
Replace Censored Words with: : Chose what to replace words that are censored with. Default is also ok.
Footer Message in all sent : The message that will appear at the bottom of all email messages that you send.
Let your users send e-mail? : Check to allow or disallow users from sending emails from your site. Yes is ok.
Let users send attachments? : Check yes or no to attachments being made to your site.
Received attachments temporal directory : The path to a writable[chmodd 775] folder that attached files will be stored.
Let users view/read attachments? : Check if users will be able to view attachments.
Max. number of accounts : You can set the total amount of accounts that you want made to your site. Leave it at default if you want to have unlimited accounts.
Is this service based in a single account? : Leave this option at No
Default Single Account Name : Leave this blank or the default.
Default POP3 Mail Server : Leave this as is..
Default mailbox images path: Leave this at default,
Filter header when forward? : Leave this at Yes.
