I think the next step may be requiring everyone to validate their copy before using windows update. Is this a good idea?. I know it would help on piracy but wouldn't it also prevent people that may have gotten a legit copy of windows from a not so legit company. Should people like those be robbed again this time by Microsoft?. Posted: Thu Mar 31, 2005 8:04 pm

Not sure I understand. Frankly I have yet to encounter the validation issue. This might be due to the fact that I refuse to install SP2. But in the end I would much prefer that every legitimate copy of Windows is validated. If during that process someone gets kicked to the curb because they "purchased" their copy from a "not so legit company", then so be it. Most people know if thier copy is legit. Those that even have an inkling that they may have a pirated copy deserve no support. Posted: Thu Apr 14, 2005 5:30 pm

Yes and those people should hold the repair shop responsible, especially if they paid for an OS install. Threaten the jerks http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/Reporting.mspx There are a lot hard core people that think it's fun to beat the system by running a pirated OS. Those people need to come to heel! If some people who thought they were running a legit copy are caught up in the crack down, so be it. Most will want to make it right and they'll buy a legit copy. Those that refuse to, well, there's always MSN TV. Posted: Fri Apr 15, 2005 11:04 am
