With a population that large and an economy that robust there seems nothing except another world war that could stop China's rise to the top. What does this mean for the world? We all know that countries surround themselves with the powerful that's why you never see the top countries requiring visas to visit each other but for the poor and so-called third world countries it's required. USA influence will not be the same, now the world will be driven by China's vision. This could be a bad thing because China's government is not the most humane. How will we live in a world where China controlls the cards. I guess it's left to be seen. Posted: Sun May 08, 2005 8:53 pm

That's some bold proclamations. The controlling factor for China is trade. Without it China would quickly fail. For all the chest thumping China does regarding it's threats to invade Taiwan, it won't because most of the world will fall in line to impose sanctions. Besides. China's current vision doesn't include civil rights for all of it's citizens, nor does it include the right for most to own their own property. China is probably still controlling the female birth rate with its One Child Policy, drowning the second female newborn from each family. While China may have a stick, in the form of weapons and man power. China's intellectual developement is still decades behind America and Europe, and this is what will keep it just a few rungs above a third world nation. Hell, only the North Koreans are will to risk being killed by Chinese border patrols just to get into China. Posted: Tue May 10, 2005 4:15 pm

There are no doubts China has enough nuclear weapons to reach US easily but would they risk enormous economic growth just to gain world dominance. A war with China is not what USA or the rest of the world wants, it won't be as easy as toppling sadam. Millions and millions of people on both sides would die. I hope the economic growth will change the country, make the poor stand up and get their human rights and force the government in a democratic one. Only time will tell...
