I have been talking to a few webmasters and during our discussions we came to the conclusion that page ranks does not matter. Before the entire webmasters community jump on my back, let me explain. Your rank is usually determined by what most would say "your inbound links". This seems to be true but I beg to differ. You cannot compare a site about bees with a rank of 9 to a site about microsoft windows with a rank of 2. You may think that the bees site is better ranked but you would be wrong.
I am sure you heard the phrase strength in numbers. If there are only 100 sites with links about bees then obviosly you will have a high rank because your page is being compared to 99 others. Now with the site about M$ there would be millions so a page rank of 2 would be an incredible feat.
I would say, think more about the number of visits to your site than the rank number. Remember yahoo and msn are not dead so I would not waste all my time getting high ranks in google only to lose your potential members from the other search engines.
