In general, I think it's how the owner takes care of it.

Currently I have music, videos, and podcasts on mine. No errors, no scratchiness, no sound bloopers.

In the end, you'll have to judge for yourself what fits your needs and wants. Smile

For those with an ipod, are the claims true? I would like to get one for my wife as she loves her music but not sure if it's worth it yet.

Ohhhhh...that's too so sweet of you... Smile I'm sure she would adore you forever for such a gift. It's a great item to have especially for the variety music lover. It beats having to keep changing out the CDS in the changer when you use it in your vehicle( I just learned that you are able to play your IPod through the radio in your vehicle with a special plug that you have to purchase to connect into your radio) that's what i like about it. But yeah like Eric stated just get a cover for it to prevent any scratches.

I would recommend Creative Zen family. I have a Zen Micro (6gb) model, and thought he back get's "scuffed" it's barely noticeable (only when you hold it at an angle to the light), and the player is remarkable.
