Got ripped off at Overstock auctions for $500, Yahoo auctions for $800, and Ebay for just $30, on 2 seperate transactions. PayPal was used in all transactions. Of the 4 scams, the monies I lost through Ebay were the only monies not refunded to me. They stood by their valued sellers over a new buyer. Ebay also owns Half.com, where I was took for $600 about 5 years back. Bought a new computer, and it ran like shit. Shut down every few minutes. I returned it to the seller, they told half.com that it was fine, and that when they got it back, the case was filled with 'small animal droppings'. Where that came from, I have no idea. But Half/Ebay took the seller at his word, end of discussion, case closed, and I ended up with a $600 tower. Posted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 12:23 pm

I bought a computer for my wife from tigerdirect.com[ a scam company...stay away!!!] They keep giving excuses as to why they can't send the return slip for the computer. Anyways, I filed a claim with amazon.com and immediately I got a reply back from tigerdirect with a print out return slip for UPS. Now that is what I call service. I will NEVER buy from tigerdirect again. Posted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 1:24 pm

These days it appears we are all far too preoccupied with being protected on all fronts that we never allow risk to enter into our lives. How much longer will it be before we demand babies wear crash helmets in their strollers, just in case they have an accident and fall out? I have read a lot here about people blaming the auction house for their losses. Two words... caveat emptor!!!! If you buy a cheap computer through any source at all, your expectation would be to receive a cheap computer in return. YOU make the decision to bid on the goods, I have never know ebay to force clients to bid on any item... no guns held to heads, saying bid or else! You CHOSE to bid, and buy an item, YOU should accept the responsibility for your own decisions and actions. Buying from any unknown source is always risky, whether that source be advertising through an otherwise reputable company or not. It is up to you to ensure that you discover all the information you can before completing the transaction. You want assurances??? Go to a reputable dealer and pay full market price and above! The comment about ebay allowing free charity concert tickets to be sold, and that this is somehow proof of ebay's amazingly loose ethical stance, had me in fits of laughter. Thank you, have not read something so amusing in ages. If a person wants to sell something that can be otherwise obtained for free, and if someone is silly enough to buy it, then, and I really hate to break this to you.... what we have here is a prime example of the free enterprise capitalist social system at its finest. I am uncertain whether the poster has ever heard of a thing called supply and demand, but it happens to be the foundation upon which all commercial activity is based. Personally, I would happily pay for something that may have been free to obtain at one point, if that item is no longer freely available, simply because there is no other way to obtain it. So the seller makes a few bucks... well the seller was clever enough to realise the potential for capital gains. That is fine by me. I am fed up with people who destroy creative growth through constant demands for greater levels of protection and safety, in all areas where once upon a time, people took self responsibility. How long before our beaches are fenced, because people might drown, and no other activity is permitted in order to reduce the risk of accidents? Grow up people and start taking some responsibiulity for your own actions rather than criticising and abusing others for your own stupidity! Posted: Mon Nov 14, 2005 4:39 pm
